The BALSA-I system was created by Marc Brown, at Brown University in 1984. This is recognized as the first system to support algorithm visualization (more specifically, algorithm animation). However, it does not appear to be currently available or supported.

BALSA-I's successor, BALSA-II, was developed by Marc Brown in 1988. It too is not presently available.
