Description |
Demonstrates R-Trees for storing rectangles. Allows a choice of splitting algorithms. Shows both the collection of rectangles and the corresponding tree structure. Two views of the data collection can be displayed at one time, to allow comparison of two configurations of the R-tree decomposition. There is a "canned" demo in animation form to see a bunch of rectangles entered. After that (or independent of the demo), users can easily add more rectangles to the collection by dragging them in the "interactive" panel. Uses can save a series of rectangle operations to replay. |

Evaluation |
Is a little hard to use, due to the complex interface. Reasonably flexible presentation, though it is limited to showing only the corresponding tree structure with little explanation of how the tree is being updated. The duel display for comparison is a good idea, though the fact that only one of them is interactive at a time can be confusing to a person trying to figure out the applet with no instructions on its use (since clicking on the wrong panel gives no results). Saving and replaying operations is a good idea, but hard to figure out without adequate instructions. |
