We are now getting closer to being ready to publicize the site and open the awards event for nomination and voting. The voting page now looks the way that we had envisioned. I have included a voting rubric to help guide the voters. At this point, there are only two issues that I know of still to be worked out. 1) More nominations. Now is the time for people to propose more AVs to put on the voting slate. Self nominations are welcome — If you are involved in developing AVs, consider putting forward what you consider to be your best work. 2) The precise timetable. From the previous posts and private discussions that I have had, there is some controversy over whether to allow the nominations and voting periods to overlap. Briefly, the fundamental tension seems to be the potential to confuse people if things change too much (lots of late nominations) vs. the potential to lose people’s interest if they come and can’t do much (can’t vote). I suggest the following timetable: * Announce the site to SIGCSE mailing list around July 1. To start, voting is not enabled, people can only nominate. * Open for voting around July 15 or August 1. Hopefully by this time nominations will pretty well have settled down. Re-advertise to SIGCSE email list, and to a broader array of outlets. * Close nominations on October 1. * Close voting on January 15. There will be periodic rounds of advertising throughout this period.

I like what you propose on the timetable. I would go with the voting opening on August 1, as that would give a month for additional nominations to come it. I would close nominations before the voting period begins.

Re: Awards process status
Update on our status: * We now have our IRB approval. So we can go ahead and advertise the site when we think things are ready. * We think that we have all the technology in place and working correctly related to nominations and voting. * I’d like to do another pass-through on the registration process to make sure this is as low-overhead as possible. Also check on the status for the various access mechanisms for logins that we have operational. * The notification messages need some polishing. They are pretty well incomprehensible at the moment. * Tom Naps, Susan Rodger, and Myles McNally will be visiting VT in early August. We’ll go over all the policy details then, including finalizing the windows for nominations and for voting. At the moment, I am anticipating that we will “go public” with the site, and open the voting sometime around August 10.
